Team London Project

'Health Ambassadors' is an innovative volunteer training project that will work in Southall, one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the UK. Working with a voluntary sector consortium with 5 small groups, we will recruit and train 100+ Black Minority Ethnic (BME) residents as 'Health Ambassadors'.

The Ambassadors project will :

·         work at 50+ outreach session to assist over 300+ residents in accessing local health services

·         arrange three 'health zone' events that will coincide with local faith festivals such as Diwali, Eid and Onam, at which the Ambassadors will complete volunteering challenges

·          deliver 500 volunteering support hours

·         arrange 10 vox pop interviews with the Ambassadors to showcase their achievements in helping older people access services

·         have an end project celebration event

Southall is one of the most multi-cultural areas of Britain, with some wards containing over 90% of residents from BME backgrounds. We will work with voluntary sector, faith groups and small businesses to create a pool of 100+ volunteer Ambassadors who can help older residents, with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity etc to learn about, access and confidently use local health services.
